Family Guy: Road to the Multiverse

The controversial animation series, “Family Guy” will be airing a Sliders parody episode in its eighth season this year. The season premiere entitled “Road to the Multiverse”, will follow Brian and Stewie traveling from one parallel earth to the next.

At the 2008 Comic-Con convention, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane referred to Sliders as, “Great premise, s–tty f—ing show”. I wonder what co-creators Tracy Torme and Robert K. Weiss would think. Not to mention Jerry O’ Connell. It’s the scifi series that jump started his career and fanbase. Well MacFarlane, if Sliders is so bad why do people even remember this show? Sure the first two seasons are primarily the best and the final season is nearly unwatchable. Yet Sliders has a cult fan following much like you’re own show.

“Family Guy” airs controversial subject matter such as: Nazis, anti-semitism, homosexuality, pedophilia, transvestites, babies in dumpsters, and not to mention religious bigotry. The show even knocks Jesus Christ and illustrates Him as a record store clerk who is obsessed with fame and eventually gets arrested. The Fox Network has now even chose not to air an episode because of it’s extreme graphic nature of the depiction of an abortion. Crushing and dicing a human being to bits? Oh well now, that sure is funny isn’t it? Yes, it sure looks like everyone is becoming shameless… of everything. No MacFarlane, everything in this world isn’t funny.

Back to the parody of Sliders, I highly doubt this show will do justice to the series. If anything of course, they’ll make fun of and destroy Sliders’ true brilliancy. “Family Guy” is one of those shows that lacks the brains of other animation series such as Mike Judge’s King of the Hill. The only thing “Family Guy” has to offer and I repeat, the ONLY thing, is bringing attention to the great television shows such as Sliders.

“Family Guy” was canceled two times, in 2000 and 2002. Yet a strong fan base and rallying DVD sales brought the show back twice. An exceptional and outstanding come back for the history books, you say. HARDLY. Sliders was canceled three times, and a strong cult fan base also rallied to bring the show back, twice. Not to mention the fourth season, which at the time, brought the Syfy Network it’s highest-rated series… ever. One year later after its fifth season the show was canceled, despite high ratings.

In essence “Family Guy” is anything but a “family”. Hopefully it’s next cancellation will be the third nail in the coffin. The premiere of “Road to the Multiverse”, featuring the Sliders parody will air on September 27, 2009.

In addition to co-creating the series with Tracy Torme and Executive Producing the first season, I have also been in the parody business producing all the Naked Gun films and Scary Movie 3 & 4. I can see both sides.
Let’s see what their parody is like… homage or hate fest; then we can fully air our views.
    Keep Sliding,
    Bob Weiss

Welcome Bob. I guess it could turn out to be a homage, but we’ll have to wait and see like you said. I seriously have my doubts however. One of many reasons being, MacFarlane’s quote of: “Great premise, s–tty f—ing show”.

    Well,
I am not a liker of Family Guy anyway but have only liked the parodies. It is too denigrating to women. Reminds me of a bad married with children. C’mon-a baby that wants to kill the mother constantly? The concept was great and though it veered with Maggie and had bad recurring villains, it still captures my interest more than any show on TV today-exdept maybe Kyle XY and that is cancelled too.

The worst episode I have seen. Surely, while only there an hour there is NO WAY that Colin could get all those monogrammed things. Rembrandt is smart enough with all the worlds they have been on to know there MIGHT be a duplicate Colin somewhere.. SHEESH-AND smoking too? Reallly a down hill episode.

I have seen the Multiverse episode and can’t say it was horrible. I dislike all of the sexual references the show puts forth, but thought the various concepts and knocks on past leaders was good. I especially liked the world where Nixon wa selected and the Black and White cartoon rendition- good satire. There were good tributes as well to the Flintstones and overall it was relatively clean! Good thing the device got broken though. I wouldn’t want a sequel

Well this is episode of Family Guy personally is nothing but trash. The timer looks like a tricorder from Star Trek, and there’s really not even a wormhole, but more like a lightning bolt. Plus those sexual references were not funny at all. More like disturbing. And the Jew joke? It’s terrible and they should be ashamed. If it was something about a black person they would be up a creek. I was going to write a review on this episode but it’s so bad that I don’t feel like wasting my time on it.

Remember, this is the Fox network we are talking about. They are notorious for cancelling good shows! They cancelled Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Sliders, and too many others to name. They even tried to cancel the X-Files back in its first season, but Fox had nothing to replace it in the lineup. So, Fox had to keep it and it turned out to be a huge success, because of the Internet and its fan base.

Fox and the rest of the television networks are keeping crappy shows that are easy on their back pockets. That is why we are seeing a lot of reality shows on television right now. It is all because of the $$$$!
