I launched Slidecage in 2007, and I’ve been watching the series since the original airing of the Pilot in 1995. Good website domain names are hard to come by these days, so I had a challenge in choosing an appropriate name. I eventually chose the title Slidecage, which is an episode title from the fourth season. In the series, the Slidecage is a large prison designed to keep anyone, human or Kromagg, from sliding to Earth Prime or Kromagg Prime. It was built by Quinn’s father Michael Mallory on a parallel earth, essentially intent on stopping war between the Kromaggs and Humans.

Thomas from the Slidecage, rescues Maggie and reunites her with the rest of the Sliders. In the end, Quinn is eventually able to slide everyone off the Slidecage, except Kaldeen who has no slide signature. Thomas, decides to stay and accompany him. After realizing my own name “Thomas” was a character in the episode, it only felt right to name the site, Slidecage.

Sliders

Sliders is a sci-fi based television show about inter-dimensional travel. The television series was the brain child of Robert K. Weiss and Tracy Tormé. The show was produced by Universal Studios and St. Clare Entertainment which aired between 1995 and 2000. The show aired on the Fox Television Network for the first three seasons and was later brought back for two more seasons on the Sci-Fi Network. The sci-fi series went through many transitions during its five seasons and had eight different actors for its cast. The show has a loyal fan base, which collectively petitioned for the series to be released on DVD and many fan based website forums helped contribute to its release.

Like many other shows, Sliders had great potential to be an long running science fiction show. It is now left to the ages as a show that will be remembered as a science fiction legend to many loyal fans and viewers. Sliders is currently not in syndication in the United States.

Creators

Tracy Tormé

Tracy Tormé – Is the son of actor Mel Tormé. He attended USC (University of California) for two and half years for the filming arts. He later transferred to the Loyola Marymount University to attend the school of cinema. While there he was hired by NBC in his senior year to join the SCTV show as a comedic writer. At the age of 21 he signed a three year contract as a writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live Show. He later went to writer and produce shows such as: Storm Riders, Fire in the Sky, Storm Riders, Messenger of Deception, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Odyssey 5, The Outer Limits, and of course Sliders. He later worked with Acclaim Comic books and Berkeley Books to further produce writings on Sliders.

The decline of the sci-fi show was a conflict between Tormé and the Fox Network Executives. Tormé felt that the end of an episode should be linked to the following one. This gave the show’s viewers a sense of enticement for next week’s episode, but the Fox Executives felt it was not needed. They wanted to air the episodes in their favored order instead of Tormé’s chronological order. This began the decent of the show’s uniqueness. The Fox Network did not want anything political, intellectual, or satire in the show. Instead they wanted an action based show where the viewer has forgotten what has occurred five minutes earlier. Tormé was later embarrassed by the outcome of the third season of Sliders. During the third season the show underwent the direction of the Fox network instead of the original creators of the show.
